Trinet is a PEO and prices its services accordingly – on the high side of the market.
In addition to add on fees such as payroll and benefits costs, Trinet charges a per employee administrative fee.
And keep in mind – it’s all or nothing. You can’t mix and match services to fit your budget – you are going to get (and be charged for) the full package, whether you need it or not.

Running payroll – it’s a necessary evil.
Pulling timecard reports, uploading to the payroll system, creating deduction codes, setting up taxes. No matter how easy the payroll system makes the process, it is still a process. A process you are expected to handle.
Payroll is more complicated than it looks, and critical to get right. You need someone to manage and execute on the whole payroll process, and can deal with the one off situations (workers comp audit, anyone?).

They have partnered with specific carriers, and you must enroll in plans offered by those carriers. Want a different provider, or different coverage – sorry, that option is not available for you.
And if you are concerned about the cost of offering ‘big company’ benefits (and who isn’t) – just remember, you can generally select a suite of benefit options, better suited to your needs, at a comparable price.
